Mexico

We took a last minute family trip to Cancun Mexico the first week in February. We had a great time although it was really windy the whole time we were there. We never felt REALLY HOT but still managed to catch some sun tans. The first thing the kids did was jump in the pool and swim up to the bar to order up some drinks. Shirley Temples and Pinia Coladas all day long - doesn't get any better than that does it? Even Jordan would walk over to the bar and order up his own drink whenever he wanted. Sometimes we would turn around and he'd be marching back from the bar with a drink in each hand. The bar tender got to know our kids pretty good and as soon as he would see them coming he'd start mixing up their favorite drink for them. They didn't even have to tell him what kind of drink they wanted. They loved the buffet of food and probably ate way too many french fries from the snack shack but they had a great time.
The salty ocean water took some getting used to for the kids but they enjoyed jumping the waves. Kaileyd hated getting salt water in her mouth. Carson just LOVED the ocean waves and couldn't get enough of them. It was a red flag day everyday so Sadie and Jordan didn't spend a lot of time in the ocean water unless Darcy or I were with them helping them jump the waves.
One day we had an Iguana sun bathing himself right between our lounge chairs. He pretty much stayed there all day and Jordan decided he better go get some food for him. We tried to feed him some fruit but he just ignored it. At first the girls wouldn't sit in any of the chairs close to the Iguana but pretty soon they got used to him just sitting there with them.
Mid week we went snorkeling, swimming with a shark, and to see the sea turtles. The kids loved the sea turtles and have decided that it would be fun to have one for a pet. (probably not!)
The first day we were there Jordan didn't put his swimming suit on right away and so he ended up getting his shorts wet in the ocean waves. I was walking back to the hotel room with him to get him changed and he was embarrased that he was walking around in his underwear. I told him that nobody cared. A minute later an older man started walking in front of us and he was wearing a green striped speedo swim suit. Jordan looks up and says really loud "Hey look mom, that guy is wearing his underwear too!" I laughed so hard!
It was fun vacation and now we are home to the cold in Calgary.

A New Dishwasher and the Dog Whisperer

I went to start my dishwasher the other morning and it had quit working. I had a full load of dirty dishes and was not happy about unloading them and washing them all by hand. (How we really do depend on our modern appliances for convenience!) I just so happened to find myself the best dishwaser I have ever had. It cleans the dishes extremely well and doesn't make hardly a sound while washing.

My older kids complained about doing the dishes and became ever so grateful for the dishwasher. They promised they would never complain about unloading the dishwasher again! It was good for them to learn to appreciate this appliance in our house.

I must say Jordan was very good about doing the dishes. He actually really likes it. We got the dishwasher fixed yesterday (hooray!) but Jordan was sad that we could put dishes in the dishwasher again.

On a side note just a cute picture of Cody and Jordan on New Year's day after letting Carson paint their faces.

Darcy's new nickname is "the Dog Whisperer". He loves dogs! We had Zoe (the little dog on his lap) spend New Years Eve and Day with us and Darcy was quite happy to have a lap dog that would snuggle right in and then his "Black Jack" who is his "real man's dog".

Happy New Year to everybody! A hint for anyone who has kids that complain about unloading the dishwasher as part of their chores - just let it break down for a couple of days and let them do the dishes the old fashioned way. It really does work! They looovvvve their dishwasher and are happy to unload it anytime you ask them. (We'll see how long that lasts:)

Merry Christmas 2008

OH BROTHER!

Jordan and Carson got their hair cuts one night just before Christmas. As I saw them sitting on the couch I realized how much they really do look alike. Jordan is a little miniature Carson.

Later on in the evening I saw them watching TV and noticed they were
even laying on the floor the same way.

Look at those profiles! The are almost exactly the same.
Oh Brother!!!!!
