Kailey Playing Flag Football

Kailey made the flag football team and plays offence.  

Mr. Brosseau loves Kailey because she can catch the ball.  So many girls can't catch well so it is a bonus when they have a girl that can catch and run the ball.

You always have to have 2 girls on the field at all times.

New Sport for Carson

Carson is playing on the rugby team this year.  He wanted to give it a try much to his basketball coach's dismay!  It is a rough sport and Carson can't afford any injuries while he is playing club basketball for Genesis. 

If you are looking at this picture and wondering which player is Carson . . . he is the one doing a face plant on the field and all you can see is his butt and bumble bee socks in the air!

When the rugby coach first saw Carson at tryouts, and before they started playing (Mr. Laberge, who funny enough was a teacher at my junior high) asked Carson if he had every played rugby before.  Carson said "Nope, I know nothing about this sport".  Mr. Laberge said "Great and kind of walked away disappointed".  After the first couple of tryouts he came to Carson and said "Are you sure you have never played this before even a little bit?  You are a natural scrum half!"  For those of you who don't know much about rugby, the scrum half is kind of like the quarter back in football.  You are the one that gets the ball and makes the play happen.  

Then when Mr. Laberge saw Carson tackling he was even happier!  

I do wish they could wear some padding though.  It is a really rough game!

This is a perfect stance of a scrum half getting the ball from the ruck and starting the play off.  

You can only throw the ball laterally or behind you so here he goes!

It is a quick game and you go from offence to defence in a blink of an eye!

 And Carson is running the ball for a try (or a touch down in football terms)!

Like any sport he thinks this is pretty fun.  

Definitely a man's sport!  But he still likes basketball better!

Kailey wins Cities in Badminton

Kailey loves badminton!  She was so excited for badminton season to start.  It is a pretty quick season but Kailey was very successful!

This is the grade 8 team from St. Joan of Arc.  

Mr. McNeil is their coach and they all love him!

As a team they came home with 2 golds and 2 silvers.

Kailey played doubles with her friend Laura and they are City Champions!  The won cities hands down beating every team they played.  The closest game was 21-10.  Congrats Kailey and Laura!

This is what Kailey has to say to anybody who makes excuses of why they lost to this fearsome doubles team!  Our favourite motto around this house!

Girls Trip to Banff

Sadie had a dance festival in Banff one weekend in the middle of April so we invited our friends Nadia and her mom Rachelle to come with us for a fun girls weekend in Banff. 

Can't go to Banff without stopping by the ridiculously expensive candy store!  

Of course we relaxed at the pool that evening.

Sadie's Jazz troupe won high gold the next morning and came in first place in their group of dancers.  Nadia was so excited for Sadie and she gave her a white rose when Sadie came out from back stage.

We went for lunch afterwards at Earls and stopped by a few stores before coming home.  Fun time with the girls!

Kailey on the Court

Kailey has finished her last Calwest season.  The only team they couldn't beat this season was Varsity and it was always a close game.   Of course these were the 2 teams in the City Final.  

As this picture kind of shows it is always a brutal game when we play the red jerseys!

Finished with the silver and then off to Provincials which were here in Calgary this year.

Before her last Provincial game I told Kailey this was her last time wearing her Calwest Jersey so go out with a Bang.

So this is how she finished her last game wearing her Calwest jersey.  Bummer!

4 days later she had to play with her school team in their City Final Game.  With the help of a lot of tape on the ankle she managed to play but was really sore!

This princess (everyone bugs her about her sparkly headband she wears) can take a foul or two.  Too bad the refs don't always blow their whistle.

After playing with Kailey and her rolled ankle and our other best player with strep throat we ended up with another silver medal.  No golds this year for Kailey. 

Maybe next year will be a gold medal year for these girls.
